Is it possible the Great Pyramid of Giza got its shape from the top down? The oldest written account says so. The Greek historian Herodotus visited Egypt around 450 BC and was told the top of the pyramid was finished first, then the part below it, and the base last of all. And there's a pyramid at Giza that was never finished. Menkaure's, the smallest of the three, still has rough granite blocks around its base with the extra stone left bulging out. Only a patch near the entrance was ever smoothed flat. So the blocks assembled were oversized and the final face was cut afterwards with the stone already in place. #greatpyramid #giza #ancientegypt #archaeology #ancientengineering
