Did you know most dolmens were never meant to be seen? What's standing today is the skeleton. Most dolmens were burial chambers covered by a mound of earth or stones, and the mound has washed away over 5,000 years and left the big stones bare. In 1979 at Bougon in western France, archaeologist Jean-Pierre Mohen tested how they were built using a 32-tonne replica capstone. About 200 people dragged it with ropes over log rollers, then raised it with wooden levers. No crane, no wheel, no metal. And at Karnak in Egypt, one ramp never got removed. A mound of mudbrick still leans against the inside of the First Pylon, because that gateway was never finished and nobody cleared it away. What other ramps do you know were cleared away without leaving a trace? #dolmen #megalith #karnak #archaeology #ancientengineering
