There is a reason Five Guys does not taste like any other fast food burger, and it has nothing to do with the toppings.
I watched their training videos to figure out exactly what makes their burgers so tender, from how the patties are formed to how they are cooked, assembled, and wrapped. The secret is not a typical smash. It is a specific two stage process, a sear first, then a smash that breaks the crust apart, that locks in tenderness no other fast food burger comes close to.
In this video I am breaking down the entire process, including how I personally order mine, an 80/20 chuck patty, crispy bacon, caramelized onions, jalapenos, and the foil wrap that steams everything into one perfect bite.
This is the Five Guys bacon cheeseburger, made at home.
