the coolest houses for sale in Scotland... abandoned edition! 🏴🏚️
Here are the coolest houses I found for sale in Scotland, this month… abandoned edition.
For some context, ever since I renovated my abandoned tiny house, I’ve been on the hunt for another abandoned house to renovate, so here are some of the most interesting ones I’ve discovered.
First up, we have Dunnolly House for £360,000 ($485,000)
This mansion was built in the 1800s by Duncan MacDougall, who was the official bagpipe maker for Queen Victoria.
Apparently, the current owner bought this place in 2023 with the intention of turning it into holiday apartments, but are now selling it as they live too far away to make meaningful progress on the project.
I actually stayed here when I was like 11 as part of a school trip, because it was previously used as an outdoor activity centre.
At the risk of being smited for promoting this, the next place I found for sale was this tiny church near the highland village of Invergarry which is up for sale at £55,000 ($74,000).
For some reason, there are loads of churches up for sale in Scotland, and I’m wondering if this is because less people here are going to church these days? If there are any reverends out there who can weigh in and confirm or deny this, that would be good.
Next up, we have The Boat House, which is a tiny former coastguard building in Aultbea, and this is listed at £29,000 ($39,000).
If this was closer to me, I would’ve been very interested, but it’s about 4 and a half hours away and in a very remote location… so I’m like 96% sure I’d go off my nut taking on that commute.
This next place is actually one that I missed out on that was for sale a few years ago, and that missed opportunity still keeps me up at night.
This is Binhill Tower, and it was previously listed for £60,000 ($81,000). While it was sold long ago, I thought it was worth mentioning, just to highlight the type of unique buildings that come up for sale in Scotland every so often.
I’m not sure if this is just the male gaze, or maybe just I’m a hooligan, but I think this top level would be prime real estate for firing arrows at intruders. Fully renovated, I just think this would be an incredible place to live.
Let me know what place was your favourite, and leave a like and follow if you enjoyed.
