In this video, I restore an old tobacco cutting machine that had seen better days. Many of the wooden parts were broken or missing, so I recreated them using my laser cutter and reinforced them with toothpicks for added strength. The main aluminum frame was cleaned and reworked, and I pressed in new custom-made brass bearings.
All shafts were remade from scratch on the lathe and nickel-plated for durability. I also forged two brand new blades from high carbon tool steel — annealed, shaped, and then hardened to restore their cutting power.
The worn gears were sandblasted, faced on the lathe, polished, and nickel-plated. Finally, the original wooden handle was carefully restored and fitted with a new brass end cap to support the new shaft.
After everything was finished, the Tobacco Cutter cuts like a dream again!
