In this episode of my Renault 4 restoration, I completely restore and rebuild the entire rear axle, suspension, brakes and wheels. The complete rear axle was disassembled and every component was sandblasted before refinishing. All suspension parts were powder coated with epoxy primer powder and a final color coat for maximum corrosion protection and durability. Smaller hardware and components were restored with a yellow zinc plated finish. Every bushing and bearing was replaced before the rear axle was carefully reassembled. I also restored the brake force regulator, torsion bars and all five wheels – including the spare wheel. The existing brakes and tires were still nearly new, with very little wear, so there was no reason to replace perfectly good parts. After cleaning, inspecting and refinishing the necessary surfaces, they were reused.
