Episode 2: Chassis Restoration | Complete Renault 4 Floor Pan Restoration

The Renault 4 floor pan was in terrible condition. In this episode, I tackle one of the most challenging parts of the Renault 4 restoration: the complete restoration of the floor pan and chassis structure. Years of corrosion had taken their toll, leaving large sections weakened or completely rusted away. The entire floor assembly required extensive repair work, including countless hours of cutting, fabricating, and welding new steel to restore its original strength. After all structural repairs were completed, the floor pan was thoroughly sandblasted to remove rust, old coatings, and decades of dirt. The bare metal was then protected with epoxy primer, sealed with automotive seam sealer, coated with underbody protection, and finished with fresh paint. To improve comfort and reduce road noise, I also installed modern butyl sound-deadening mats throughout the floor area. This project was far more than a simple repair—it was a complete structural restoration aimed at preserving the Renault 4 for many years to come.
