VanLife Without a Fridge: I Bought 36kg of Vegetables 😳
I bought 36 kg of vegetables for cooking in my van - with no fridge.
Sounds insane? 😅 Let me explain.
After 7.5 years of vanlife, I finally realised that dehydrated vegetables might actually be the best food solution for someone who:
doesn’t have a fridge
doesn’t want a fridge
and doesn’t want to shop every single day
So I ordered a big box of dehydrated vegetables and did a proper price comparison with fresh supermarket veg to see if this actually makes sense - financially and practically - for vanlife.
⚠️ Before anyone comes for me in the comments:
Yes, the vegetables are dehydrated. In reality, it’s 3.8 kg dry, which rehydrates to about 36 kg of fresh vegetables. So… clickbait-ish, but also true 😉
In this video:
I unbox a large dehydrated vegetable order
explain rehydration ratios
compare dehydrated vs fresh vegetable prices
break down the real costs including shipping
and talk honestly about whether this is worth it for vanlife
This is not sponsored. The company doesn’t know I exist - I paid for everything myself and chose them purely for their variety.
What I gained is:
shelf-stable food
zero food waste
fewer shopping trips
the freedom to cook whenever I want
and no fridge to power in a van
If you live in a van, travel full-time, or just hate food waste, this might surprise you as much as it surprised me.
Let me know in the comments: 👉 What are your shelf-stable food hacks?
(And please… I’m really not looking for fridge recommendations 😄)
