I hate fishing… but not for the reason you think. During a recent trip to the southwest of Western Australia, I went back to my favourite dolphin spots - and what I witnessed there completely broke my heart. A baby dolphin had become badly entangled in fishing line. Watching her struggle alongside her mother was one of the most helpless feelings I’ve ever experienced. In this video, I share what happened, the response from Parks and Wildlife, and why experiences like this are so hard to ignore - even when it comes to small-scale, “responsible” fishing. This isn’t about blaming people. It’s about something many of us never see: lost fishing line - also known as ghost gear - that continues to harm marine life long after it’s been left behind. Entanglement in fishing gear is one of the leading causes of death for whales and dolphins worldwide - and it’s happening here in Australia too. I’d genuinely love to hear your thoughts: Do you think areas with high dolphin activity should have stricter fishing rules or no-fishing zones? 🐬 In this video: Real footage of an entangled baby dolphin A mother staying by her side The reality of fishing line pollution A situation that left me feeling completely helpless 📍 Filmed in Western Australia 💬 If you fish, I’d especially love to hear your perspective - let’s keep it respectful. ☕ Support my channel Buy me a coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/jana.vanana 🛠 VanLife Gear (affiliate link) Amazon storefront: https://www.amazon.com.au/shop/janavanana 📷 Follow my journey Instagram: @jana_vanana #dolphins #wildlife #marineconservation #australia #sealife #oceanlife #ghostgear #vanlife
