Discover more about developer Nomada Studio and its three founders: Adrian Cuevas, Roger Mendoza and Conrad Roset. Adrian and Roger, who both worked at Ubisoft as programmers at the time, randomly met Conrad one night during a party in Barcelona. When artist Conrad mentioned he always wanted to make a video game, but lacked the programming skills, their conversation turned into a brainstorming session. The documentary also explores all the design decisions that Nomada Studio made and shows how colors were the driving force behind their initial prototype. It also takes a close look at all the hurdles the team had to go through. Since they were on a tight budget, they had to be smart about scope and find ways to turn those limitations into advantages. For instance, one of their first decisions was to not include any dialogue, text, or even UI elements. It allowed them to really focus on the art and it also saved them a ton of localization and design work. However, it made storytelling more challenging. Furthermore, the team wanted to create an open-world metroidvania initially, but since they wanted to reach a broad audience, the developers decided to make Gris more linear instead. Lastly, Adrian shares what makes Gris so special for him and how the game has helped people deal with their own grief.
