Welcome to Krk Island, Croatia—a magnificent testament to Europe’s wild heritage and a true hotspot for Mediterranean herpetofauna! In this comprehensive 35-minute natural history documentary, we take you on an intense field expedition across the island's rugged landscapes to document the incredible diversity of its resident reptiles. From the lightning-fast whip snakes to the secretive, brilliantly patterned Leopard Snake, Krk Island showcases how effectively these species have adapted to thrive in various ecological niches.
In this documentary, you will discover:
🐍 The 8 Resident Species: Up-close, high-definition footage of all eight snake species with firmly established populations on the island.
🔎 The Unresolved Mysteries: A look into decades of field research surrounding rare, historical sightings of the semi-aquatic Dice Snake and the elusive Smooth Snake.
🌍 European Conservation Urgent Need: Why our local ecosystems carry an equally vulnerable ecological value compared to the global wilderness of other continents.
🥾 Strict Field Ethics: A reminder of our collective responsibility as reptile lovers to minimize our impact—always flipping back rocks and protecting these sensitive microhabitats.
Chapters:
For thousands of years, these reptiles have quietly endured the rise and fall of human empires. Today, their survival and the preservation of a highly fragmented biodiversity rest entirely in our hands.
