Begging scams can be confronting, especially when someone appears to have a serious injury. For most of us, the first time we saw the idea of beggars being deliberately disfigured was in Slumdog Millionaire. Seeing something that reminded me of that while travelling through Pakistan was shocking. If you're travelling in Pakistan, don't feel pressured into giving money just because someone approaches you or shows you an injury. Keep your distance, stay calm, and don't get drawn into an argument. If you genuinely want to help, consider donating through a reputable local charity instead. That way, your money can support people who need it without rewarding aggressive or potentially exploitative begging. Have you encountered something like this while travelling?
