I thought I was simply saying “thank you” 🙏.
But this Pakistani man thought I was greeting him as a Hindu, and quickly corrected me: “We are not Hindu. We are Muslims.”
It was a genuine cultural misunderstanding, and a good reminder that gestures can mean very different things in different countries.
I was actually thanking a man who had helped me find a Balochi suit for my wife.
