With Somnolence, I set out to create an intense proof-of-concept that feels like a feature in under 10 minutes. The story explores the human cost of time travel and the terrifying fallout from a failed energy experiment that rips open a world-devouring singularity, an idea inspired by real-world fears surrounding the LHC and its particle collision experiments. At its core, this film is about the quiet agony of love under extreme pressure: a wife who must help invade the damaged mind of the man she loves, knowing the procedure might break him forever, all in a desperate attempt to save the world. It’s an intimate, heartbreaking drama woven inside a high-stakes sci-fi thriller. 🎞️ About the Film: Writer & Director: Patrick Kalyn Producer: Gabriel Napora Cinematographer: Cliff Hokanson Music: Jesper Kyd Editing: Patrick Kalyn Frist AD: Mike Bishop Second AD: Matt Tingey Co-Producer: Shawn Cooke Associate Producers: Alfonso Quijada, McKinley Hlady, Terry Batth VFX Supervisor: Kevin Little Stunt Coordinator: Brian Ho Stunts: Ray Chan Art Director: Eamon Jones Production Designer: David Griffiths Line Producer: Ivan Lyttek Script Supervisor: Nikisha Moise Armorer: CK Smith 1st Assistant Camera: Einar Sigurdson Camera DIT: Jon White B Camera Operator: George Ershanbamer B Camera 2nd Assistant: Mike Sharkey C Camera Operator: Oliver Millar Key PA: Brett McDermott PA: Brendan Wanderer Makeup Artist: Briana Scott Key Wardrobe and Costumes: Kathi Moore Gaffer: Garry Stamford Production Sound Mixers Grady Lawlor, Ben McDonald ADR Recordist: Toby Hulse Re-recording Mixer: Vince Renaud Sound Design: Skywalker Sound Dialogue Editor: Kim Foscato Sound Designers: Benny Burtt, David Chrastka, Kim Foscato Sound Effects Editors: Benny Burtt, David Chrastka VFX: Lux VFX Lead VFX Artist: Patrick Kalyn Lighting and Shading: Ryan Jensen Texture Artist: Michael Nicolas Rigging: Bob White Animation: Patrick Kalyn Additional Compositing: Ben Funk CG Design and Modeling: Patrick Kalyn Color: Company 3 Colorist: Siggy Ferstl Cast: Douglas Chapman Shannon Schoenit Ryf Van Rij Ilan Muallem Justin Doran Richard Jollymore Fabio Muoio Ryan Vrba Jp Mc Glynn Poul Bay Brett Mcdermott Amanda Loxterkamp Ben Ross Connect with DUST: Website 🌐: http://www.watchdust.com Follow Us on Facebook 👍: https://www.facebook.com/watchdust/ Follow Us on Instagram 📷: https://www.instagram.com/watchdust/ Follow us on TikTok 📱: https://www.tiktok.com/@watch_dust #DUST #scifi #shortfilm Submit Your Short Film: https://filmfreeway.com/alterdustsubmissions NOTE: Only completed shorts will be considered.
