Why WOLVES don't have EYEBROWS but DOGS DO?!

Did you know… wolves don’t have eyebrows — but dogs do? In this episode of Animal Watch, I’m joined by my blue wolfdog Ocean to uncover one of the most fascinating secrets of domestication… how humans didn’t just change a wolf’s behaviour — we actually reshaped its face. Dogs have a small muscle above the eye called the **levator anguli oculi medialis**. This allows them to raise their inner eyebrow, creating that soft, emotional “puppy dog eyes” expression that humans instinctively respond to. Wolves don’t have this muscle. Instead, their communication is completely different — subtle, controlled, and based on body language, ear position, tension, and movement… not exaggerated facial expressions. So why did dogs evolve this? Scientists believe early dogs that could better communicate with humans — especially through facial expressions — were more likely to be cared for, fed, and kept close. Over thousands of years, we quite literally shaped the dog’s face to bond with us. Ocean sits somewhere between these two worlds… and you can see it. Part wolf. Part dog. And right in her face — the story of domestication. 🎬 Watch now and discover how humans changed dogs forever.
