THE ITALIAN WOLF

For centuries, the Italian wolf was relentlessly persecuted. By the 1970s, fewer than 100 wolves were thought to remain in Italy, pushing this magnificent predator to the very edge of extinction. Today, the Italian wolf is celebrated as one of the greatest wolf conservation success stories in the world. But after a devastating poisoning incident this year that killed an entire wolf family, many conservationists are asking a worrying question... could history be starting to repeat itself? In this episode of **Animal Watch**, I travel to the breathtaking **Apennine Mountains**, the ancestral home of the Italian wolf, to discover the truth behind its extraordinary recovery. Alongside my wolfdogs, I walk the ancient forests and mountain trails where wolves still roam, before meeting conservation communicator and naturalist Sveva Gelfi to uncover how Italy brought its wolves back from the brink—and the challenges they continue to face today. Can humans and wolves truly coexist, or is this remarkable comeback now under threat? **Featuring:** The Italian wolf, the Apennine Mountains, wolf conservation, coexistence with livestock, electric fencing, livestock guardian dogs, and the ongoing fight against illegal persecution and poisoning. If you enjoy wildlife documentaries and want to support factual conservation storytelling, please **like, subscribe, and share** this episode. **Please note:** The animals accompanying me in this film are high content wolfdogs and **are not wild Italian wolves**.
