Why are dogs adored in some countries... but feared, hated, banned or even eaten in others? For many of us, dogs are family. They sleep in our homes, share our lives and become our closest companions. But around the world, attitudes toward dogs vary dramatically. In this Animal Watch investigation, I travel through history, religion, culture and modern society to uncover why dogs are viewed so differently across the globe. 🐕 Why are dogs considered unclean by some Muslims? 🐕 What do Hindu traditions say about dogs, Yama and the afterlife? 🐕 Why does Nepal celebrate dogs during Kukur Tihar? 🐕 How did dog meat traditions develop in parts of China, South Korea, Vietnam and Laos? 🐕 Why are street dogs feared in parts of Africa, the Middle East and Asia? 🐕 How have rabies, poverty and survival shaped people's attitudes toward dogs? 🐕 Why are some countries accused of culling dogs before major sporting events and tourism campaigns? 🐕 And perhaps most importantly... can these attitudes change? This episode explores beliefs and traditions connected to Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity and secular modern societies, while examining attitudes toward dogs in countries including China, South Korea, India, Nepal, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Egypt, Pakistan, Turkey, Morocco, Russia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Vietnam and Laos. Let me know in the comments: 🌍 Which country do you think treats dogs best? 🌍 Which country still has the furthest to go? 🌍 Have you witnessed attitudes toward dogs changing in your own country?
