TURKISH BOZ SHEPHERD - IS THIS GIANT KANGAL THE FIERCEST WOLF KILLER OF ALL?

Tonight I come face-to-face with a true giant of the livestock guardian world — the mighty BOZ SHEPHERD. Bigger and heavier than the Kangal, the Boz has traditionally been described as having a different role when confronting predators. While the faster, more athletic Kangal can pursue and drive wolves away, the huge Boz is the BODYGUARD — staying close to the flock and using its immense size, power and courage when a predator comes too close. And when confrontation becomes unavoidable, this is a dog with a formidable reputation. The Boz is regarded by its enthusiasts as one of the mightiest livestock guardian dogs capable of standing against wolves. Can it kill a wolf? Well find out tonight... For this episode I travelled to meet an extraordinary Boz — owned by Jack Mutlu in Seaford, believed by his owner to be the only one currently living in the UK — and I was completely blown away by his sheer size. But where does the Boz actually come from? Is it an Armenian breed? Is it Turkish? Its origins and identity are fiercely debated, reflecting the complicated history of the dogs and peoples of Anatolia and the surrounding region. Today, Turkish breeders strongly claim the Boz Shepherd as one of their own. So how does this enormous guardian compare with the legendary Kangal? Could a Boz really take on a wolf? And what on earth is a dog this powerful like to live with?
