In this video, I’m taking you through 4 main types of apartment buildings in Yakutsk, Yakutia—from the oldest two-story wooden homes to modern new developments.
You’ll see what each type is like in real life: how these buildings are designed for extreme cold, what utilities they have, what winter life looks like inside different homes, and the everyday details people don’t usually talk about—entrance doors, stairwells, drafts, and why construction in Yakutsk is so unique because of permafrost.
We’ll also visit one of the newest areas of the city—the 203 Microdistrict—and talk about what makes it feel like a “new Yakutsk”: taller buildings, family-focused infrastructure, and heated parking.
