In Today's Episode:
In New York, 1991, A yacht the length of a city block slides up the Hudson and the man on its deck is on top of the entire world. Eight months later he goes over the side in the dark off the Canary Islands, and they pull his body out of the ocean that afternoon. He died a bankrupt thief, days maybe from the whole thing coming out... and then a country that wasn't even his own buried him like a head of state, on the most sacred ground there is.
That man was Robert Maxwell. And you already know his family, you just know them from the wrong room. You know the daughter, Ghislaine, from a courtroom and from Jeffrey Epstein. What you almost certainly missed is what the rest of the Maxwells were quietly building while every camera in the world was pointed at that island: one of the search engines fighting to run the early internet, an FBI counterterrorism database holding 659 million people, and a dynasty built on a single idea.
