This video is about the origins of surreal art, and the many attempts to depict the unconscious mind. From apocalyptic dream art to impossible landscapes, fantastical painting has had a long history. As we explore the history of surreal art and proto-surrealism, we’ll see how Aboriginal Australians depicted the dreamtime, how renaissance illusionists like Arcimboldo tricked our minds into seeing faces, and how the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) art has changed our definitions of creativity. There’s plenty to discuss, so sit back and enjoy! If there are any artists or artworks you would like to learn more about, do let me know in the comments. There is so much to talk about when it comes to the bizarre visions of Salvador Dalí, or the haunting sketches of Odilon Redon. What would you like to see? Happy New Year! It’s the start of Season IV and I’m really excited to get going. An aim I have this year is to streamline my editing process, meaning that I can get more videos out to you wonderful people.
