In this video we discover the untold history of the Bled Agreement of 1947. A would-be step toward a Balkan Federation that nearly merged Yugoslavia and Bulgaria and almost paved the way to further Balkan inclusion via the annexation of Albania, Greece and Romania. Led by Josip Broz Tito and Georgi Dimitrov, this short‑lived post‑WWII vision promised open borders, a customs union, cultural integration, and a radical reimagining of Southeast Europe. It ended up never happening due to the Tito-Stalin split of 1948, after which the Soviets forced Bulgaria to step away from the agreement and pressured other Balkan socialist nations to diplomatically isolate Yugoslavia. But what if it had succeeded?
