🇮🇹🇦🇹 Why South Tyrol Is Still Part of Italy – A Hidden Border Dispute in the Alps:
South Tyrol is a German-speaking region in Northern Italy with deep historical ties to Austria. So why is it still Italian? In this video we explore the complex territorial dispute between Austria and Italy, tracing the region’s history from the Holy Roman Empire to World War 1, Italianization, and the South Tyrolean independence movement today. We discover how the Treaty of London (1915) led Italy to annex South Tyrol after WWI, and how Mussolini's regime tried to erase the region’s German identity. We also dive into the Tyrolean Rebellion, the 1939 South Tyrol Option Agreement, and the post-WW2 autonomy struggles that shaped this unique region. Today, South Tyrol is one of Italy’s richest provinces, yet a strong self-determination movement persists. Could it become an independent country or even reunite with Austria?
