Devon Island is the largest uninhabited island on Earth. It's bigger than Cuba, nearly the size of Ireland, and yet home to exactly zero permanent residents. Located deep in the Canadian High Arctic, Devon Island is colder, drier, and more isolated than almost anywhere else on the planet. With no towns, roads, ports, or permanent airstrips, human life here has proven nearly impossible. Despite this, Devon Island has become one of the most important places on Earth for space exploration. Its barren terrain, extreme climate, and isolation make it the closest example we have to Mars, leading NASA and other space agencies to use it as a testing ground for future missions.
