Working with the Asian American Musician Community (APA Heritage Month 2021)

Happy Asian Pacific American Heritage Month 2021! Director Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians) asked if I'd be interested in scoring a PSA to celebrate APA Heritage Month, and I wanted to work entirely with Asian American musicians on it. If you're not aware, Asian Americans are severely under-represented in Hollywood, and I thought perhaps I could create some opportunities for the Asian American creative community which has given so much to me in the past. So I put out the word on Facebook, and all these instrumentalists, singers, and engineers volunteered their time. It was a great little moment for members of our community in a generally tough year for Asian Americans. (Come join us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/aapimusicianslosangeles) Over the course of 24 hours we put together demos in a few different genres, including funk, motown, and rock. Ultimately Jon decided to go with my instrumental funk track, which I expanded and named "Enter the Funk Dragon". (You can hear the full track here: https://youtu.be/MPOhErcaQSs) We had fun making this! It was a real pleasure working with all this talent, and I look forward to working more with the Asian American musician community in the future.
