I'm surrounded by the best people in the music business, and that includes my producers! They're always behind the scenes and don't get in front of the camera often, but they're my ears in the control booth when I'm on the podium, and make sure that we get everything we need. And for sessions like these, where we're recording an opera ending, concert suite, AND a special figure skating edit at the same time, that's a lot of music to keep track of. Here we are at Abbey Road Studios, between sessions, having a little checkup in the media room. Sean Patrick Flahaven has been my publishing A&R guy and producer for about 14 year now, first at Warner Chappell Publishing, and now with Concord. Timothy Hsia has been both Executive Producer and Producer on my records for about 6 years now (and sometimes even serves as an in-studio physician, as it can get quite hot in the studio and sometimes people pass out!). Giacomo Puccini's final opera was left unfinished at the time of his death in 1924, and over the last century a handful of composers have received commissions to compose an ending to it. Christopher Tin's finale to Turandot was commissioned by Washington National Opera, and debuted at the Kennedy Center in May 2024. Directed by Francesca Zambello, with a libretto by Susan Soon He Stanton. The recording features Christine Goerke, Clay Hilley, the English National Opera Chorus, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Christopher Tin.
