Is a Wolfdog a hybrid? I hear so many people refer to them as this, but is this accurate? A true hybrid is when two different species breed together, like a horse and a donkey creating a mule. And most real hybrids are infertile, unable to produce offspring of their own. So what about wolfdogs? Technically, people often call them hybrids… but biologically, that’s not quite right. Wolves and dogs are not separate species. Dogs are simply domesticated, evolved wolves — the same animal on two different paths over more than 30,000 years. And when a dog and a wolf have puppies, those puppies are fully fertile, generation after generation. That alone means they don’t meet the definition of a true hybrid. So instead of the confusing label “hybrid,” I prefer the term wolfdog — because that’s exactly what they are: dogs with recent wolf ancestry, sitting on the same genetic family tree, just closer to the wild. #wolfhybrid #hybrid #wolfdog #wolfdogs #bluewolfdog #wolfgirl #wolfexpert #dogexpert #animalwatch #animalfacts #wildlifefacts #bluewolf #bigdog
