Why do WOLFDOGS MOUTH so much? #wolfdog #wolfhybrid
Why are wolfdogs so mouthy? Read below ⬇️
Wolfdogs often use their mouths to communicate, play and interact with the world around them. Much of this behaviour may be influenced by their wolf heritage.
Hunting and Prey Instincts
Wolves use their mouths to grab, hold and control prey. Wolfdogs can inherit strong predatory instincts, often expressed through grabbing, tugging and mouthing.
Play and Bonding
Wolf pups constantly mouth, nibble and gently bite one another during play. This builds social bonds, develops coordination and teaches bite inhibition. Wolfdogs may retain this behaviour well into adulthood.
Discipline and Communication
Wolves use body language, muzzle grips and inhibited bites to communicate boundaries and regulate social interactions. Mouthing can therefore be an important part of their social communication.
Why Do Pet Wolfdogs Mouth Their Owners?
In the wild, wolves direct much of this physical interaction towards their pack members. Pet wolfdogs may direct similar behaviours towards their human family, using their mouths to express excitement, affection, frustration or a desire for attention.
Mouthing isn’t aggression. It’s often a natural form of communication, although wolfdogs must still learn gentle boundaries and bite inhibition.
