Overwatch Animated Short | "Jesse McCree"
Created by David James Armsby.
Past member of the notorious Deadlock gang, Gunslinger and vigilante "Jesse McCree" is known across the west as equal parts, a lawbreaker and a lawbringer.
When he stumbles upon a bank robbery in the middle of the American desert, it becomes his duty to dispense his personal form of western justice.
I love that the world of Overwatch is so vast and accommodating of so many different peoples and places that I can fit nearly any genre into a short. If I wanted to create an Asian-inspired, symbolic ninja's tale, I can. If I wanted to create a story of a lone robot in the forest, making himself one with nature, I can. Hell, I bet I could probably squeeze a noir thriller, an anime-mecha cheese-fest, a dark war-documentary or even a horror out of the lore.
For a while I've wanted to do a western, and to incorporate some of the visuals and tropes that are associated with that. Turns out a western is extremely easy to set into Overwatch's universe when one of the playable characters is a cowboy. Overall, I am pretty satisfied with the finished result. A bit of the animation looks a little odd, and I'm unsure if the little girl is terrifying or adorable, but whatever.
I am also a huge fan of the visuals this time around. Especially the monotone-red stuff. I just think it looks gorgeous, brutal. It also mimics the filter that goes over your screen during McCree's Ult so that's a bonus. =P
