C++26 just got rejected in its ISO standards vote, and even Bjarne Stroustrup, the creator of C++, has raised serious concerns about one of its biggest new features: contracts. The C++26 draft received just 60% approval from voting members, falling short of the required two-thirds majority, while 41% of national bodies voting opposed it. At the center of the controversy is P2900, a proposal to introduce runtime contract checks into C++. Stroustrup and four other committee members called the proposed design an "existential threat to C++," raising concerns about its complexity, safety, and incomplete implementation.
