People, today I'm in Hangzhou, China. Look, this is just an alley in a park, but one odd thing about it is lots of open umbrellas, and each one’s got a paper ad clipped onto it. This is an ordinary Saturday in a city in southern China. This is how parents look for a spouse for their children. Each of these ads lists the age, profession, income, number of apartments and cars in possession of a prospective husband or wife. That is, absolutely all the information about a person, which we think of as confidential, is here on public display. In China, it’s considered perfectly normal, just like the fact that your mother will go around picking a wife for you. Here, parents will meet first, and then they’ll introduce their children to each other. If the project fails, they’ll try their luck at a marriage agency. In China, every neighbourhood has at least one. And today I'm going to show you what dating is like in China.
