AI meets Wikimedia – online communities and their approaches | WMCZ & WMEU

On Friday, April 25, 2025, a public debate titled “AI meets Wikimedia – online communities and their approaches” took place at the Česká spořitelna Palace in Rytířská Street in Prague. Representatives of four European Wikimedia chapters attended the discussion. They shared their experiences with using artificial intelligence tools and discussed how AI might influence the future of the Wikimedia movement and the operation of its projects. A distinguished guest, Věra Jourová, Vice-Rector of Charles University and former European Commissioner, offered a perspective on the topic from the viewpoint of European legislation. The development of artificial intelligence presents a number of opportunities, but also challenges for the Wikimedia movement. This topic is receiving increased attention within the organisation, and similar events help foster discussion across communities and the expert public.
