Don't waste your time learning useless words like 'apple, tomato, carrot, banana, strawberry, apricot, blueberry, detergent, uncle, aunt, nephew, niece...' when you are a beginner. Beginner courses are often full of them, or even basing individual lessons on them. They are really not necessary and are just a burden you don't need as a beginner. You can replace them with general terms like 'this, that, thing, he/she/it' and spend time practicing more important words or word patterns instead. I recorded a podcast about the topic for anyone interested: http://www.foreverastudent.com/2012/10/basic-language-structures-project.html
