What's all the fuss about GM wheat? | Shed Science
The Rothamsted GM wheat trial is facing opposition, so what exactly is GM, what are the scientists doing to the wheat, and should we be concerned? This Shed Science looks at both the scientific and ethical arguments put forward by the Take The Flour Back protesters and whether the evidence supports them or not (SPOILER: It doesn't).
Batista & Oliveira (2009) Facts and fiction of genetically engineered food
This is the best, most recent review of all the GM studies published in a very reputable journal. It highlights how there have been some trials showing negative effects of GM food on rats, but that without exception these experiments have design flaws or do not provide sufficient information to allow useful conclusions.
The Rothamsted website is excellent, especially the questions and answers section: http://www.rothamsted.ac.uk/Content.php?Section=AphidWheat
If like me you support GM and want to help the scientists, you can sign the petition at Sense about Science: http://www.senseaboutscience.org/petition.php and spread the word using the hashtag #dontdestroyresearch
