My own mini version of Blue Planet 2! When I got an email asking if I could be paid to fly out to French Polynesia, go SCUBA diving on the reefs and make a video about the coral research happening there, strangely enough, I said yes! A huge thank you to BNP Paribas Foundation for funding this video and for flying me out, giving me access to your researchers and letting me make whatever video I want about it. Subtitles are available for the whole video in English, and feel free to submit subtitles in other languages if you have the time. To find out more about the research going on you can visit: Dr Laetitia Hédouin's page (French): http://www.criobe.pf/pro/personnel/chercheurs-et-enseignants-chercheurs/laetitian-hedouin/ Nina Schiettekatte's page: https://reefish.umontpellier.fr/index.php?article47/schiettekatte-nina A really clear, informative website about coral bleaching (and where I got most of my facts): http://www.globalcoralbleaching.org/ This one really made me realise how big the problem is: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2016/jun/07/the-great-barrier-reef-a-catastrophe-laid-bare Other sources: https://www.nature.com/scitable/blog/saltwater-science/why_are_coral_reefs_important This project's research grant proposal (sadly not public as it's an amazing resource) If anyone is thinking that it's a bit hypocritical of me to make a video about climate change by flying to the other side of the world, I thought that too. That's why I made it a condition of my agreeing to this sponsorship that the whole trip would be carbon offset as part of BNP Paribas' mission to become carbon neutral. I know that carbon offsetting has its own drawbacks and limitations, but hopefully making this video will increase understanding about the issue and encourage people to make small but meaningful changes to help in the fight against global warming.
