On Editing the "OH F**K" Moment" - RJFS Office Hours Ep. 12
EDIT: Unfortunately, there was a lot of issues with our usual QC pass and export workflow on this one and the color pass was lost in the fray (e.g. crap happens.) With everything going on, both planned and unplanned, it just got to the point where we had to decide whether a flawed podcast was better than no podcast that week, so up it went. We still believe the conversation within it is worth listening to, otherwise we would have scrapped it. We've been trying out a different recording set up and post workflow for the podcasts based on the recurring problems we've been having, so we appreciate the fans who are being patient and are able to still enjoy the subject matter while our small team of three irons everything out. All your concerns are not unheard! Hopefully the new adjustments will solve a lot of these. (As for the crappy autofocus, that was a camera malfunction that reset all the settings we had prepped before the shoot, and we were as equally annoyed when we saw the footage.) Regardless, we hope you get something out of the conversation!
On this week's podcast, Joey, Cherish, and Lauren talk more in-depth about our latest video essay, "Editing: Creating the "OH F**K" Moment" – written and put together by our own Joey Scoma. We discuss where the idea for this video came from and how it developed, and why editing is simultaneously necessary and extremely difficult to teach. We also delve a little further into the closely-knit ties editing has with directing, and how editing is best learned through failure. We also bring up the other editing concepts that eventually had to cut from the video... which could be hints at later essays down the line!
