In a song of ice and fire there are magical people called skin changers who can take possession of animals and in certain cases even other people. The Stark children all have this power. Bran Stark is going through an initiation at the end of A Dance With Dragons to level up his power and become a full on Greenseer. In Navajo legend there are people called Skin-Walkers who wear the skins of animals to take on a form that grants them magical powers. George RR Martin lives very close to the Navajo nation, could these legends and their similarities helped to inspire his world building around the idea of skin changers in ASOIAF?
