New York City is famous for its skyline, subways, and spaghetti-style highways — but what about the places where millions of New Yorkers actually live? From towers built directly over an interstate highway, to brutalist giants in the Bronx, to entire communities perched on platforms over the East River, New York’s housing experiments are just as bold as its infrastructure. In this video, we’ll explore five of the city’s most fascinating apartment complexes on Google Earth, and ask whether they worked as intended — or were doomed to fail from the very beginning, hopefully they won't collapse like the recent chimney accident. 📍 Featured complexes: - Independence Plaza (Tribeca, Manhattan) - 3333 Broadway (Hamilton Heights, Harlem) - Coop City (Bronx) - Ruppert Yorkville Towers (Upper East Side) - The Galaxy Tower (Guttenberg, New Jersey) If you enjoy these deep dives into cities and infrastructure, consider supporting my work on Patreon for access to exclusive content, savegames, and behind-the-scenes insights Support me on Patreon: patreon.com/imperatur #NewYorkCity #Architecture #Urbanism #GoogleEarth Support me on Patreon: patreon.com/imperatur Music by: epidemicsound.com Stockfootage: storyblocks.com
