Looking for where to eat on Route 66? This food guide covers the best food spots, roadside diners, and dishes to eat in Kansas and Oklahoma. Join us on the ultimate road trip food tour celebrating Route 66’s 100th anniversary! In Galena, Kansas, food critic Jason “J” Lee starts at Gearhead Curios, a gas station so quirky that people have gotten married in it, before heading to the iconic Nelson’s Old Riverton Store, one of the best Kansas food spots on the road, for a party ham sandwich and a slice of cherry pie. Then it’s across the border into Oklahoma, where Tulsa’s Baloney Maroney’s serves baloney sandwiches named after Route 66 cities, and Rhys Martin, president of the Oklahoma Route 66 Association, shares what makes the Mother Road so special. In Oklahoma City, Chef de Cuisine Amaru Loetz serves up oysters, fluffy focaccia, and natural wine at Sedalia’s, one of the city’s most exciting Oklahoma restaurants, and the next morning it’s egg rolls and fresh donuts at Quoc Bao Bakery. The route ends in El Reno at Robert’s Grill with owner Ed Graham, who has been working there since he was a teenager, for an Oklahoma onion burger. This is proof that some of the best food in America is found at roadside diners, where classic diner food America has loved for decades is still being served. Along the Route in Kansas & Oklahoma: 1.
