THE MYSTIC LIVES OF INDIA’S HOLY MEN: Restored 90's Footage
Join Danish journalist Karsten Kjær as he embarks on a spiritual journey to meet the holy men, or sadhus, of India and Nepal. Starting with a wild ride through India's chaotic streets, Karsten navigates the sacred spaces where these mystical figures live and perform their rituals along the banks of the Ganges River. From conversations with pilgrims and travelers to interviews with the holy men themselves, this documentary offers a unique glimpse into their world.
See sadhus smoking chillum pipes, engaging in spiritual practices, and performing extraordinary feats—such as a man lifting stones with his genitals and the “Milk Baba” who lives solely on milk while unfurling his magnificent hair. Alongside these spiritual figures, pilgrims partake in sacred rites, symbolically anointing themselves with cow dung and water from the Ganges.
Karsten also explores the use of herbal medicine, visiting a hospital where leprosy patients are treated with traditional remedies. As the journey continues into Nepal, viewers are introduced to Tibetan monks, ancient symbols like the swastika, and the breathtaking views of Kathmandu. In this city, another sadhu demonstrates his ability to lift a 60 kg stone with his body.
This captivating documentary provides a rare insight into the lives and practices of the holy men who walk the spiritual path in India and Nepal, with stunning visuals that capture the heart of these sacred lands.
