In the end we basically stole the standard "up down" ranch layout. But in my defense I could not find a way to make it more efficient. The community really nailed the design. I am looking forward to mid game as I want to try a fed from the top ranch to mass farm algae. Well assuming we don't power lock ourselves before that.
