Advanced Driver Assistance Systems & The World Of Automated Driving! Sponsored By Snapdragon - https://www.qualcomm.com/products/automotive/snapdragon-ride Subscribe to Engineering Explained for more videos! - https://goo.gl/VZstk7 There are six levels of automated driving, as defined by SAE. The foundation for all automated driving comes from Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, or ADAS. ADAS uses sensors like cameras and radar to gather data, processors to interpret data and plan actions, and control systems to steer, brake, or accelerate. As an example, manufacturers like BMW, with their new iX3, can choose which ADAS features they want implemented in their vehicles when using Snapdragon Ride Pilot. In fact, more than 20 OEM programs worldwide have announced or are developing vehicles with Snapdragon Ride, with most programs launching within the next year. How much of that work the driver still handles, determines the automation level. At Levels 0–2, the driver stays fully responsible, even if the car might be controlling the steering or vehicle speed. Level 3 means the car is driving itself, but you need to be ready to take over if it asks you for help. Finally, Levels 4 and 5 remove the need for a driver altogether, and possibly even the pedals and steering wheel. Don't forget to check out my other pages below!
