Game objects are slow (demonstrated clearly in this video) so you have to go to ECS for better performance right? Not really. You don't need to learn ECS to get ECS performance. ECS and other DOTS packages are all part of DOD, Data Oriented Design. Which you can achieve as well while still living in game object space. I try to give the ability to go try it in the first couple minutes. Then go into some good explanation of how to think about it, down to how C# converts to assembly (ignoring IL) and how the Prefetchers and Cache RAM operates to help you. Better yet, the full source for the video is readily available. https://github.com/DanVioletSagmiller/UnityDodNoEcs Check out the Unite presentation, now live: https://youtu.be/0y3erF2tzbI Also, I'd like to make this channel a thing I can focus on. With places like Coursera changing to pay-only model, I'd like to spend some additional effort making it free again, and put a full C#/Unity course that teaches all this.
