As part of the celebrations marking the 40th anniversary of the DPRK in 1988, thousands of participants took part in a torchlight parade through the streets of Pyongyang. These mass events, featuring coordinated formations and illuminated slogans, became some of the most visually striking public celebrations held in the capital.
