Paint removers and solvents are powerful chemicals. When using them, good ventilation, suitable gloves, and eye protection are essential. Avoid inhaling the fumes, contact with skin and eyes, and open flames or sparks. Another important issue is used rags and other waste. Rags soaked with solvent or oil-based products can be dangerous if crumpled up and thrown into a plastic garbage bag. Some products can release heat as they dry; when rags are piled up and deprived of airflow, this heat can become trapped and may lead to self-ignition and even fire. Therefore, do not casually throw solvent-soaked rags and waste into the trash. Follow the disposal instructions on the product label and safety data sheet; if necessary, use a fire-resistant, lidded metal waste container. The most important rule when working with chemicals is simple: Read the label, ensure proper ventilation, and take the waste as seriously as the product you are using.
