Available for new customers and those who cancelled their subscription twelve months ago or more. Part one of a 2,000-mile road trip from Las Vegas to Houston, Texas, in my 1979 Mercedes G-Wagon, Gertrude, who has travelled through Germany, Russia, Peru, Bolivia and Mexico but has been stuck in Las Vegas since 2019 and is now running on only four or five of her six cylinders. Joined by Chris and Patrick from Sin City BMW in a manual BMW 7 Series that had been off the road for 25 years, we battle desert heat in the high 40s °C, overheating, worn-out synchros and running out of fuel, while stopping at Outpost X, a Star Wars-inspired glamping site in Utah with real land speeders. Then we take this classic G-Wagon off-roading on Moab’s notorious Hell’s Revenge trail and over the Rocky Mountains at more than 10,000 feet, where she struggles so badly that the crew car has to push her up the hill on the way to Denver.
