After a drug with anti-aging properties turns some users into zombies, two Black sisters fight for their lives—and looks—in this satirical take on toxic beauty culture. "The Flacalta Effect" by Rochée Jeffrey #ALTER #horror #shortfilm Connect with the Filmmakers: https://www.iamrochee.com/ https://www.instagram.com/rocheejeffrey/ More About "The Flacalta Effect": Keesha and Toya are Black sisters whose house is being infiltrated by the undead. Keesha and Toya couldn’t be more different. Keesha's hardened to the world because of everything she’s experienced as a Black woman in America and has no desire to fight to escape. Toya, an open-hearted optimist, believes that if they survive this zombie attack, they may live to see a better world. All they have to do is kill a couple of zombies, not murder each other in the process, and maybe they’ll survive… Maybe. Director's Statement: Dystopian films love to end the world, but they rarely interrogate who that world ever belonged to in the first place. They imagine a future where race disappears, instead of one where its consequences evolve. Through Keesha and Toya, this film centers the conversations many people of color are already having: if the system was never built for us, what exactly are we fighting to protect? Layered into that is a culture addicted to youth and beauty—so much so that it’s willing to destroy itself to maintain the illusion of both.
