The titletrack ‘Flux’ kicks off the EP appropriately with a scattered arpeggiated sequence that progressively destabilizes over commanding drums. The track bends vintage techniques to the will of today’s dancefloor, sifting through percussive sections to accumulate or diffuse energy with every transition. ‘End to the Means’ follows up on the A side, proposing a rare track made completely from drums. This exercise in movement by Kr!z takes the music back to the core of it all - rhythmic control. Infectious groove in a chamber reverb without a synth in sight, ‘End to the Means’ provides an uncompromising effect as a standalone track or blended in a four deck mix. On the other side of the record, ‘Undertow’ heavily contrasts its predecessor by bursting at the seams with harmonic work. Crunchy plucks and frontal percussion make the track a perfect peaktime piece to add even more instability to a drifting set. The EP concludes with the appropriately named ‘Rain’, ultimately diving into introspection rather than Kr!z’s more typical psychosis. Light melody cradles the track over the more decisive drum machine, creating an eyes-closed moment for the apex of a techno set. ‘Flux’ closes with ‘Rain’ in a delicate manner, taking down the energy piece by piece before its end.
